What a year!

December 30th

It's been a hell of a year.  I really can't believe that we have two more days left.  Where did the time go?  I'll tell you where it went...it went into accomplishing goals or getting close to those goals.  For me, I can't say that I accomplished every single goal I had at the beginning of the year.  I could beat myself up for not accomplishing most of my goals I set at the beginning of the year.  But why?  Why not celebrate the few accomplishments I had this year?  So, instead of being Debbie Downer, I will be upbeat and proud of what I did this year.  Before I do that, the small DD in me has to complain about the last month of the year and here I go...

December was a hell of a month.  First off, my baby girl was in the hospital for a week.  With many prayers and talented doctors and nurses, she is back to her old self.  But for me, it was a bit stressful to see my baby girl in a hospital bed with an IV placed in her arm.  She was a trooper and I am so proud at how brave she was.  Secondly, I traveled two weeks out of the month, to and from Dallas and Denver.  There was not one time I worked a full week in the field.  As a result, I didn't hit my goal and had the worst month of the year.  Lastly, my eating and exercise fell to the waste side.  I worked out a total of 4x this month, w/no running!  What a piece of work I am.  I feel yucky and my belly is bloated.  I think I need to become friends with Jamie Lee Curtis and buy some Activa.  But, I am not going to let this one month be what I think of the whole year.  (As a side note, I read my first blog and I described how December was a shitty, lazy month for me a year ago.  I should have read that blog at the beginning of the month and not fallen in the same rut.  Or I can just realize that December is my month that I take a break, however I see it...December is a no bueno month for healthy living!)

My goal this year was to lose 30 lbs.  I didn't follow through with that, but I did lose 10 lbs.  I did not get to the size 6 I wanted, I am wearing a size 12 loose.  Even though my weight has always been an issue, I am not going to stress about the numbers.  The only way I am going to be 130 or a size 6 is if I deprive myself of everything and work out 6 days a week.  I really don't want to do that.  I like eating and I love food.  I have learned how to say no and stop when I get full.  I also don't eat like a pig on weekdays and I only drink a few drinks on the weekends.  If I lose 10 more pounds I will be happy and that is what I am going to focus on next year.

I ran and ran and ran and I am still loving my running.  This year I ran three half marathons, one 10k and a 5k.  I am so proud of what I accomplished this year!  This is the only real goal that I followed through with.  I realize the only reason I followed through with it, is because of the passion I have for running.  I have set a goal for 2012 and this will include a full marathon in October.  I also have some plans for a mini Tri in the summer.

I am still working on other goals; such as, organizing my life and my house.  It's baby steps...this will always be a work in progress.

Ladies, I just want to thank each and every one of you for the support you gave me throughout the year.  I am not mad for not accomplishing the goals I set out.  I am happy that I came close and didn't give up all together.  That truly is the accomplishment...I DIDN'T QUIT!  I fell short, but that's ok.  Theresa, thank you for having the bright idea of the Follow Through Club.  Even though I have not blogged every single day, I am going to continue with this in 2012.  I put out some of my 2012 goals, but I really am going to reevaluate them and tweak them.  I will have a more detailed plan for you in a few days.  As always, I must go...but I will leave you with this...You must accept that you might fail; then, if you do your best and still don't win, at least you can be satisfied that you've tried. If you don't accept failure as a possibility, you don't set high goals, you don't branch out, you don't try – you don't take the risk."

Asshole!!!

December 14th

Ladies, I am my worst enemy.  I gained some weight.  After committing to losing a few extra pounds for year end, I gained 6 lbs!!!  I was in Dallas last week for our annual sales meeting.  I drank too much and ate even more!!  During these meetings, I usually have no more than two drinks and go to bed by 10.30 and workout every morning.  That didn't happen this time!!  Because, I don't get to hang out with my counterparts from Denver.  They usually don't want to hang out after work and want to get home to their families.  With all of us not having to rush home, we caught up on family, gossip, markets, and poke fun at each other.  So, I drank a few too many beers and did the one thing that has gotten me in to trouble in the past...order late night room service.  Yuck!

Since I have been home, I got back on track with WW's and working out.  Thankfully, I have lost two pounds.  But I need to lose 4 more and on top of that 4 more to be 155.  It also doesn't help that I am PMSing...I swear I get moodier and moodier the older I get.  I know it's PMS, but it doesn't stop me from being an asshole to my husband, mother and everyone around me.  I want to get over this and feel better again.  Plus, my boobs have been hurting for two weeks now.

I know, I know...I shouldn't complain so much.  But I feel a little bit better when I blog.  So, I know this day will be somewhat better.

Thanks for the support!

Home Office...no bueno

December 5th

So, I started WW's again.  I tracked everything.  I went over on my points...surprise surprise.  I had to stay home today.  If you don't already know, the 505 is a winter wonderland.  It's been snowing all night and all day.  I wanted to catch a spin class today, but they were all canceled.  I truly hate working from home.  I know I shouldn't make an excuse...but that's the only time I cheat.  Blah...

No more negativity...on to something else.  I will be in Dallas this week.  I will get some workouts in while I am there.  It's nice, because I don't have to worry about getting anyone ready.  I will also be in Taos this weekend for a wrestling tournament.

I see 150...

Thanks for the support!

December 2nd

I ate like a pig...what the hell is wrong with me?  It's always nice to know that tomorrow is a new day...right?  Working from home is the worse.  I think it's a free for all in eating.  One day at a time, right?  Why is it so hard?  Food is my vice...hi my name is Melanie, and I am addicted to food.  If I was REALLY strict, I would be at my goal from January.  I have to shake this...it was one bad day.  I have to look at the positives...sorry for the pity party.

Thank you for the support!

Last mile in the race...

December 1st

This is the last month of 2011...where did the time go?  For me, I don't know...but what I do know is, I have become a slacker to my blog.  I am going to treat my blog like a race...and finish strong!  I WILL blog every day in December, even if it means a few lines.  I should not put my blog on the waste side.  I can't make the excuse that I don't have time, when in reality I do have the time.  I will finish strong this month!!!

I have been trying to fight a cold over a week and half.  When I came home from Las Vegas, my body was hit with a horrible virus.  Go figure, I got sick during my vacation.  So you know what this means, I have not exercised.  In two weeks the only workout I have done is walking the strip, running two miles on the strip and the Turkey Trot.  (Not to get off subject, when I ran in Vegas I ran with my husbands cousin.  He is fit, but was hurting at mile 1.  It made me feel good that this big booty Judy can out run a guy!)  So what I am trying to get at is...I need to get BETTER so I can get in the gym!!!!!

I am sitting at 158.  Realistically I will would like to be 155 lbs by New Years Eve.

Thank you for the support!!!

My Love Affair...

November 13th

So, I have not blogged in a well, even though I am busy and working like a crazy woman...I really can't make that an excuse.  I can find the time to blog for 5-10 minutes.  I just haven't been wanting to.  Since my last blog, a few things have occurred in my life.  I will type about one.

I finished my last half marathon for the year and it was horrible.  First off, I had to drive to Farmington (for work) right after.  Because of that, I told my husband not to bring the kids and cheer me on at the finish line.  Because of this, at mile 11 I started to slow down and well, break down.  My mind was telling my body to stop, to quit, to not do this anymore.  This is only because I was so selfish, my family wasn't going to be at the finish line, cheering me on.  I was telling my body to stop because I wouldn't be able to see the look on my children's face as I cross that line with a sense of pride.  And because of this, I stopped to walk.  (You will judge me after I type my next sentence.)  I walked for .10 of a mile and was very disappointed with myself.  I felt that lactic dump in my legs.  Two women I passed at mile 5 just passed me...what the hell??  I told myself, "Come one Melanie, finish strong...you got this."  I picked up and started to jog it out and at that last mile I got back to where I was.  Surprisingly in the distance I saw my two cousins, aunt and friend.  That brought me back to life and I got my second wind.  Even though I finished strong, it was my worse time ever.  I finished at 2.34...twenty minutes longer than my first.

What I should be saying, hell yeah...I am the ultimate bad ass...three half marathons for 2011!!!  Just to let you know, I am very proud of myself and I know a lot of people will never accomplish this.  But I am so damn competitive that I even compete with myself.  Even though I might not be in church every Sunday, I thank God for everything he has blessed me with (on those long Sunday runs).

I followed a crazy carb load program two weeks prior to the race.  I ate 95% carbs three days prior to long runs and the race.  Because of this I jumped up to 165.  Damn Gina that's seven pounds!!  Immediately after my race I lost it all.  Plus I took two weeks off.  This was my first week back to exercising.  Today was my first day back to running.

What I have realized is, even though my mind can play tricks with me and I have that feeling of quiting.  I come back to it and truly it is my passion.  One would describe it as love affair or a drug, becomes it is addicting.  Some of you might think..."what the hell, I HATE to run".  But honestly, it hits you when you least expect it.  Bam, pow, wham...you're in love.  And with that I will close with this...my worse race will always be better than the worlds best french fry, martini, chocolate pie or pizza.

one day could be bad, but wait until tomorrow...

Oct 1st

Hello all!!  It's amazing how one day of running can be terrible and you want to quit and the next day be amazing and you realize that you are ready for your race.  I came home early on Friday and got on the road to run 4 miles before meeting Adam at the bus stop.  I thought the weather was not to hot, it was 75 and with a slight breeze.  I got to mile 2 and was dying!!  I walked for a while did some intervals just to keep my heart rate up.  I couldn't finish strong.  I thought to myself, "damn, if I can't finish this how am going to finish 13 in three week"?  I still had to get out and run the following day.  The following day you would have thought a totally different person was out on the road.  I got on the road and finished at Adam's soccer game with 7 miles.  I felt great and wished I could have ran longer.  I forgot that it's totally normal to have a bad day at running.

Ladies, have a great day and thank you for the support!
