It's been a hell of a year. I really can't believe that we have two more days left. Where did the time go? I'll tell you where it went...it went into accomplishing goals or getting close to those goals. For me, I can't say that I accomplished every single goal I had at the beginning of the year. I could beat myself up for not accomplishing most of my goals I set at the beginning of the year. But why? Why not celebrate the few accomplishments I had this year? So, instead of being Debbie Downer, I will be upbeat and proud of what I did this year. Before I do that, the small DD in me has to complain about the last month of the year and here I go...
December was a hell of a month. First off, my baby girl was in the hospital for a week. With many prayers and talented doctors and nurses, she is back to her old self. But for me, it was a bit stressful to see my baby girl in a hospital bed with an IV placed in her arm. She was a trooper and I am so proud at how brave she was. Secondly, I traveled two weeks out of the month, to and from Dallas and Denver. There was not one time I worked a full week in the field. As a result, I didn't hit my goal and had the worst month of the year. Lastly, my eating and exercise fell to the waste side. I worked out a total of 4x this month, w/no running! What a piece of work I am. I feel yucky and my belly is bloated. I think I need to become friends with Jamie Lee Curtis and buy some Activa. But, I am not going to let this one month be what I think of the whole year. (As a side note, I read my first blog and I described how December was a shitty, lazy month for me a year ago. I should have read that blog at the beginning of the month and not fallen in the same rut. Or I can just realize that December is my month that I take a break, however I see it...December is a no bueno month for healthy living!)
My goal this year was to lose 30 lbs. I didn't follow through with that, but I did lose 10 lbs. I did not get to the size 6 I wanted, I am wearing a size 12 loose. Even though my weight has always been an issue, I am not going to stress about the numbers. The only way I am going to be 130 or a size 6 is if I deprive myself of everything and work out 6 days a week. I really don't want to do that. I like eating and I love food. I have learned how to say no and stop when I get full. I also don't eat like a pig on weekdays and I only drink a few drinks on the weekends. If I lose 10 more pounds I will be happy and that is what I am going to focus on next year.
I ran and ran and ran and I am still loving my running. This year I ran three half marathons, one 10k and a 5k. I am so proud of what I accomplished this year! This is the only real goal that I followed through with. I realize the only reason I followed through with it, is because of the passion I have for running. I have set a goal for 2012 and this will include a full marathon in October. I also have some plans for a mini Tri in the summer.
I am still working on other goals; such as, organizing my life and my house. It's baby steps...this will always be a work in progress.
Ladies, I just want to thank each and every one of you for the support you gave me throughout the year. I am not mad for not accomplishing the goals I set out. I am happy that I came close and didn't give up all together. That truly is the accomplishment...I DIDN'T QUIT! I fell short, but that's ok. Theresa, thank you for having the bright idea of the Follow Through Club. Even though I have not blogged every single day, I am going to continue with this in 2012. I put out some of my 2012 goals, but I really am going to reevaluate them and tweak them. I will have a more detailed plan for you in a few days. As always, I must go...but I will leave you with this...You must accept that you might fail; then, if you do your best and still don't win, at least you can be satisfied that you've tried. If you don't accept failure as a possibility, you don't set high goals, you don't branch out, you don't try – you don't take the risk."
Let's go team!
